When she was 10, she broke the 400- meter state record at the Hershey's Track & Field Games. She's competed in the 3,000-meter event at the USA Track & Field (USATF) Junior Olympics cross-country meet four times and was named an all–American at the 2012 track and field Junior Olympics. We caught up with the young running star this past February on her way to the Father Daughter Banquet. When did you start running? When I was 5. The first cross-country meet I attended, I remember loving the competitive aspect. I joined the Rain City Flyers when I was 8. They have more-intense meets with higher competition. What do you love most about running? I like that anyone can do it. There's not much you need to know about running. There's not too many steps or movements to learn. You just need to use your energy. How much do you train? I train with the Rain City Flyers. I run about 14 to 18 miles per week. Some of the girls I compete against train much harder than me—sometimes I beat them, other times they beat me. I meet up with my friends and run the outer loop at Green Lake a lot. I end averaging about three miles per day. What keeps you motivated? Winning races. If I don't train hard, I know I won't win as many events. What piece of advice would you give to other young runners? Don't be afraid of not winning. Go all out and don't hold back. It's just a race. There are tons of them. Have faith in yourself.
