It is the month when most companies have completed their first quarter and are adjusting their business plans accordingly. For me, April is a busy birthday month—six birthdays in my immediate family plus a best friend. At the WAC, we begin our annual Board of Governors nominations each April. And thanks to the insightful leadership of Immediate Past Chairman Jeff Atkin, the current slate of nominees aligns with our goal of continuing to diversify the WAC Board (see pages 14–15). I want to thank Jeff for his time and thoughtfulness in filling the slate of 12 Board members. April is also the time that the executive team presents the annual Strategic Plan to the Board of Governors. I'm pleased to report that this year the Board, in collaboration with President & CEO Chuck Nelson, began a new approach to our strategic planning process. For the first time, the Executive Committee of the Board and the WAC executive team had a joint planning session regarding the Strategic Plan. Each of the executives worked in tandem with their committee chair to develop a robust plan, and all plans were vetted thoroughly by their respective committees. The Club's planning process is evolving, and that is critical for an established business model like ours. The downtown Seattle landscape is changing faster than ever before, and the demographics of Seattle are changing with it. We will retain our premier status and compete strongly among changing competition, including 1,100 restaurants, thousands of new hotel rooms, and many new niche "work clubs" downtown. I am proud of the work the Executive Committee and the executive team performed this year to evolve the strategic planning process. But there is more work to do. As Seattle changes, so must the WAC. A season of planning
