ATHLETIC PROGRAMS Fitness Classes 206.839.4781 • Aquatics 206.464.3086 • wac.net/athletics APRIL 2014 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | 45 SPECIAL EVENTS Kids Indoor Triathlon Saturday, April 26; 9 am The fifth Kids Indoor Triathlon is a great way to teach your junior WAC members healthy and fun fitness habits. Participants will ride stationary bikes, run on the track, and finish with a swim in Helene Madison Pool. All participants will receive a bib number, T-shirt, water bottle, swim cap, and snack. The event will close with a pool party with the infamous WACness Monster and an awards ceremony. Participants will be awarded a finish medal, and the top placers in each age division will be awarded prizes. The emphasis will be on participa- tion, building self-esteem, and teaching kids their inner strength. Ages 5–6 and 7–8: 1-mile bike, quarter-mile run, 50-yard swim Ages 9–10: 2-mile bike, half-mile run, 75-yard swim Ages 11–14: 3-mile bike, three-quarter-mile run, 100-yard swim (Note: 20 laps to a mile on WAC track; 25 yards per length of WAC pool) $40; registration forms located in stairwells, at pool, and in the 8th Floor Athletics Office; call 206.622.7900, ext. 4086, for additional information. Beginners' Triathlon Program Starts in April Have you ever wanted to complete a triath- lon? Here's your chance to prepare with a group of your favorite training buddies at the WAC. This 16-week beginners' triathlon program targets the Seafair Triathlon and starts in April. Includes a training program designed by coach Julie Vieselmeyer, biweekly workshops on training-related top- ics, weekly group workouts, and a practice triathlon. When you register for this pro- gram you'll also receive a gear package, including a transition bag, race belt, chip strap, Yankz shoelaces, water bottle, nutri- tion products, and more (a $150 value). Please check the schedule posted outside the studios for class location. Group fitness classes are free to Fitness Advantage holders. Juniors may attend these classes with instructor permission—all fees apply. Barre A lively fusion of ballet conditioning, Pilates and yoga. Tuesday/Thursday: 7–7:50 am, 11 am–11:50 am, 6:15–7:05 pm Saturday: 12–12:50 pm; Sunday: 1–1:50 pm Boot Camp Intermediate/Advanced strength conditioning. Monday/ Wednesday/Friday: 1:30–2:30 pm; Note: Aqua boot camp held 10:45–11:45 am on Fridays in the pool Boxing Conditioning Train like the pros without the black eye. Class includes work with heavy bags and focus mitts as well as light sparring and jump rope exercise. Gloves available or bring your own. Tuesday/Thursday: 12–1 pm Sunday: 3:30–4:30 pm Cy–TRX Back to back intervals of cycling and TRX. Monday/ Wednesday: 10:45–11:45 am Friday: 12–1 pm Dance Cardio A mix of hip hop, Latin, and funk to challenge your cardiovascular endurance. Wednesday: 5:30–6:30 pm Friday: 11 am–12 pm Saturday: 12–1 pm Endurance Cycle A 60-minute cycle class that incorporates measuring RPMs and wattage to build endurance and burn calories. Tuesday/Thursday: 7–8:15 am (finishes with 15 minutes of core), 10:45–11:45 am, 5:30–6:30 pm Saturday: 7:30–8:30 am Energy Cycle & Core Forty-five minutes of cycling to get your heart pumping and calories burning, followed by a 15-minute core-strengthening workout. Monday/ Wednesday: 12–1 pm Tuesday/Thursday: 5:45–6:45 am Groove Cycle A music-driven calorie burn. Tuesday: 6:30–7:30 pm Kalorie Killer A nonstop step aerobics and muscular endurance class. Saturday: 8:45–10 am Pilates Mat Strengthen abdominals, gluteals and lower back muscles as you lengthen and improve alignment, coordina- tion and balance. Beginners are encouraged to attend the Monday 12:10 pm class. L U K E R U TA N Barre combines ballet, yoga and Pilates.
