Letter from the President & CEO Chuck Nelson, President & Chief Executive Officer / cnelson@wac.net / @cnhuskies13 T hroughout the WAC there is commitment to making this award-winning club even better. e team members in every department are challenged with finding ways to improve all that the WAC does. ey are always looking for ideas on new programs, improvement to the facilities, and better ways to serve the members. e theme "be great today and even better tomorrow" rolls through all that happens here. Eighty-five years and getting better! It is not only the team members who contribute to the operational and experiential excellence of the Club. ere is a long and proud history of member leaders who take on responsibilities and roles of governance of the WAC. ere are six standing com- mittees, each made up of 12–18 members who provide guidance and vision for the different areas of the Club. e WAC's Board of Governors consists of a minimum of 34 member leaders. e Board meets monthly to look at the WAC as a whole, review and approve the annually updated five-year Strategic Plan and one-year Operating Plan & Budget, and serve as ambassadors and evangelists to drive membership growth. e Washington Athletic Club is honored to have the principled guidance and input of the best minds of Seattle and the regional community. We are proud to present in this issue of WAC Magazine the slate of nominees to join the Board of Governors for the next term (see page 14). If you have an interest in getting involved in WAC governance, please contact either Member Services or a WAC Board member. We know that WAC families are getting organized for summer fun. From its inception, the WAC has been enthusiastic about women's and family activities, and the Club is committed to being a hub for youngsters and families. New and invigorat- ing educational, athletic and entertaining programs are on tap for the school-break months (see page 32). Take advantage of many high-quality options offered at your Club and have confidence there will be smiling faces all summer long. e WAC's mission is, "To enrich the quality of life of our members." How about enriching the quality of life of the world! We can proudly claim the orga- nizer of the first Earth Day, every April 22, as a longtime and active WAC member. Congratulations and thank you, Denis Hayes! Finally, make sure you eat at Torchy's or Hagerty's this May. I love Barbecue Month, and I know you will, too. Whet your appetite on page 12. Enriching our lives
