N ick King has been a WAC member for as long as he can remember. His father, John King, joined the Club in 1971. Nick often headed down to the WAC after class in middle school and high school, catching the bus from Capitol Hill to do homework in the Voogd Library. The WAC proved a great place to study—Nick eventually attended the University of Washington—but the Club offered something else, too: a place to bond with his friends and family. "My father would take my brother and me down to work out in the mornings," Nick recalls now. "Nothing too serious, just trying to show us his routine." That routine passed down to Nick, who transferred into his own membership at age 25. After UW, Nick began working downtown at Sprague Israel Giles Insurance. His regular WAC routine included basketball with friends and workouts with Personal Trainer Roy Coleman Jr. "For anyone who works in the downtown core, WAC membership is a must," Nick says. Even after he accepted a commercial broker position at Parker, Smith & Feek in Bellevue, membership remained "a must" for Nick. "As lunchtime WAC trips were no longer in play, I readjusted my schedule," he says. Now, he works out in either the morning or after work. "It's been a great change of pace and a way to meet different members," Nick says. As for new members, Nick has long told friends about the WAC. When WAC Friends & Family returned this past December, he made sure to let them know it was a great time to join. "As more and more peers are beginning to work in the downtown core, I always recommend the WAC," he says. Nick recently sponsored new members Garrett McCauley, Kelly Coleman, and Claire Topalian. When asked, Nick admits the main reason for wanting friends to join the Club: "I spend a lot of time there," he says. "And I enjoy seeing them." —Joshua Stollenmaier is a WAC Editorial Intern Includes Membership All-Stars as of press time. All-Star program continues through July 31.
