ATHLETIC PROGRAMS Fitness Classes 206.839.4781 • Aquatics 206.464.3086 • wac.net/athletics Go further this year with the Tri/Cycle Club L U K E R U TA N By A. Carin Weinrich, Co-President WAC T ri/Cycle Club Gear and events WHAT'S ON YOUR TO-DO LIST FOR 2014? Whether it's running faster, swimming with the perfect stroke, or crossing the finish line with a better time, the WAC Tri/Cycle Club can help. If you're interested in finding local races, the club offers inside knowledge and training geared toward dozens around the Pacific Northwest. The list of events includes the Chilly Hilly bike ride, the Fat Salmon swim, the Torchlight Run, the Seafair Triathlon, and many more. The club supports beginner and seasoned athletes. Benefits of joining include the following. Each year the Tri/Cycle Club offers a signature gear item to club members as part of their membership. Members are also eligible for discounts at Speedy Reedy and Cycle University. Members also can receive discounted fees for events, including the Seafair Triathlon, and for trips with Erickson Cycle Tours. Group workouts Coached swim workouts take place at the WAC pool with coaches Julie Vieselmeyer and Wade Praeger. Workouts focus on a variety of goals, including improving technique and increasing endurance. We also offer summertime swims in Lake Washington as well as track or brick (bike and run) workouts at Roosevelt High School on Tuesday nights from January through November. Other group workouts include weekend runs, practice triathlons, and bike rides with Piper's Peddlers. Training partners One of the ways we support and encourage one another is by nurturing training-partner relationships. Having partners to train with inspires us to push our boundaries, reach our goals, and take on new challenges. Socials We gather quarterly to learn about new events or training tips and hang out. Past socials have included short programs on bike fit, acupuncture, and proper shoe sizing. All WAC members are invited to find out more about the Tri/Cycle Club at our 2014 kickoff social, set for 6 pm on Thursday, January 23, in Hagerty's Clubroom. Meet our coaches, find a training partner, and sign up or renew your membership. Contact tricycleclub@wac.net for more information. JANUARY 2014 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | 51
