Kay is the CEO of Butch Blum Inc., a European specialty-clothing store in downtown Seattle that has introduced dozens of European designers to the Northwest. Many people in the Seattle community also know Kay for her leadership on the Seattle School Board, where she served from 2009 to 2013, including as 2013 board president. The Nellie Cashman award is presented to women who exemplify leadership in extraordinary ways, including community outreach, financial management, and entrepreneurial attributes. "I feel fortunate to have been named a finalist, much less win," Kay says. "It's very flattering to be honored by my peers." During the past 30 years, Kay has helped raise $1.7 million for Seattle Public Schools. She's also served on the board of the Arthritis Foundation and on the University of Washington graduate school of business advisory board.
