In November and December, the Washington Athletic Club was home to thousands of revelers, as more than 600 members and guests enjoyed a WAC Thanksgiving feast, scores of families had their traditional photo taken with Santa, and dozens of companies had their holiday parties in the beautiful catering spaces in our historic Clubhouse. The Club's annual Jubilee extravaganza lived up to its reputation as the party of the year, and once again a happy member drove away with an early Christmas present after winning the beautiful Jubilee Grand Prize, a red Mercedes. Children enjoyed kid-sized versions of A Christmas Carol and The Nutcracker, and the Club honored its wonderful team members by hosting its annual holiday celebration for staff and their families. What a wonderful time of year to celebrate friends, families and colleagues. Thank you for choosing the WAC to play a role in this important part of your lives. And now away we go into 2014! The Club begins the year at full-throttle, with strong usage by the membership and an active, vibrant building. Our Friends & Family membership promotion runs through January, providing the most attractive time of year for new members to join the Club and the highest rewards for current members who refer new members. You as a member have a critical role and responsibility in this. It's important to continue to grow the membership, which reflects directly on the Club experience—more dues-paying members lead to even greater financial strength, more funding for capital improvement projects, and potentially fewer or smaller dues increases going forward. The WAC is in a great place—one of America's best private city clubs in one of America's strongest and most energetic cities. We have an opportunity to speed even faster along this great ride in our community, and everyone can participate and benefit. The Club accomplished many great things in 2013. Some were highly visible, such as the lobby Gateway Project and the beautiful update of Torchy's Bar. Others were less obvious but still beneficial to all the membership, including significant upgrades to the kitchen and technological infrastructure. We are pleased with the continued evolution and progress across the Club, and we're excited for the great things we can do, with your help, in 2014.
