Now, at age 57, she continues to partake in two to four races per year. Laura and her family joined the Club in 1992, and she's been a member of the Tri/Cycle Club since its inception three years ago. She's conquered the Seafair Triathlon four times, Lake Meridian Triathlon, and this summer will take on a series of Canadian triathlons. Many people know you as a King County Superior Court judge. Outside of work, you're a mother and train year-round. How do you maintain your schedule? Everyone is busy. What's important is to set your priorities. I've been training with Tri/Cycle Club coach Julie Vieselmeyer the past eight years. It's helped me to have someone guide me through training. She gives me new workouts and a schedule I can follow. How would you describe your training? I focus on speed running and long runs during different weeks, along with biking. I also love trying different classes. I go to cycling, strength and core, and TRX classes at the WAC. I also do Friday morning lake swims with the Tri/Cycle Club. International Court Soccer International Court Soccer is played on a racquetball or squash court using a specifically designed ball. Traditionally, the game is played one-on-one. ICS appeals to a range of ages and skill levels. ICS soccer balls can be checked out at the 6th Floor Sports Shop. C ourt reservations: 206.464.3095 Info: www.internationalcourtsoccer.com What have you learned about racing through the years? You have to be consistent. I enjoy competing against myself. It's fun to see how I can improve with each race. I've been very fortunate not to have any accidents during a race. That comes from being well organized. It's also good to keep in mind that we all have days when we're tired. You just can't give up. Racquetball Quickie Do you have a favorite race? The Seafair Triathlon. It's the same course I train on, so I feel very comfortable with it. Join the Squash Club for fun tournamentstyle play. Each Wednesday and Saturday, the squash courts are home to a handicapped event for all skill levels. Just show up and play. What would you recommend to a triathlon newcomer? It's helpful to work with a professional who can give you guidance. Also, it's important not to be intimidated. 52 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | August 2013 The WAC Racquetball Club invites all players to join in round-robin play on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
