Topping many lists is a visit to Edinburgh to stroll the Royal Mile and explore Edinburgh Castle. With a quick letter of introduction from Member Services, The New Club will serve as a fantastic home base as you experience all that the Scottish capital has to offer. Just a 10-minute walk from the castle gate, The New Club has stunning views of the towering castle—especially when it's lit at night! The castle itself is an icon of military strength and Scottish independence. It also houses the Crown Jewels of Scotland and the legendary Stone of Destiny. By Western standards, The New Club is very well-established. The first club records date as far back as 1787. The club moved to its present site in 1837, with the current building completed in 1969. If you're looking for accommodation, the club offers 22 recently renovated overnight rooms, with special rates for reciprocal members. After exploring the city and the delights of the Royal Mile, you may require some nourishment. I recommend lunch in the Long Room, where you can pretend you're William Wallace as you overlook Old Town and the castle. If you're looking to entertain your entire court, the Ramsay Room is great for a dinner party. The sweeping balcony overlooks Princess Gardens. The rail station is five minutes away. Activities »» Take a hike to the top of Arthur's Seat. This 822-foot dormant volcano offers stunning panoramic views of the city. It's also fabled to be the location of King Arthur's mythical Camelot. On tap in August is the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the self-proclaimed world's largest arts festival. Weather »» July and August are the hottest months, with average highs in the mid-60s. Lows are in the upper 40s. Even in the peak of summer it can still be Edin-burrrr.
