Teamworks Team member of the month April La Paz Anna De Designer Anna joined the WAC a year and a half ago. "I was impressed with how nice, welcoming and friendly everyone was," she recalls about her first time at the Club. As a designer, Anna works on an array of projects for marketing and WAC Magazine. She's created dozens of intelligent and thoughtful design pieces. She also takes photos around the Club, assists with technical challenges, and helps produce the digital edition of WAC Magazine. Creative Director Barbara Schmitt says Anna has helped move the marketing message forward. "She's an amazing and elegant designer," Barbara says. "She's enthusiastic, curious, and approaches her design with members in mind." Marketing Manager Katherine Garsi adds: "Anna is always positive. She fills in with everything and makes the WAC a part of herself." Fellow designer Kelly Wang also praises Anna's work. "She does everything with professionalism," Kelly says. May Navarro Marlet ✪ Anna has three children. The oldest is 7 and the youngest is 1. ✪ She loves photojournalism and watching the TV series VICE on HBO. ✪ Anna likes going on mission trips to expand her worldview. DID YOU KNOW? ✪ Marlet has visited countries in all corners of the world. Out of all the places she's traveled to, her favorite is San Francisco. ✪ Marlet is from the Philippines. She has four sons. The oldest is 34, and the youngest is 27. ✪ She loves reading and enjoys going to The Seattle Public Library. Her favorite books to read are detective and mystery novels. Laundry Supervisor When Executive Housekeeper Eva Vasquez started in December 2011, she needed someone to fill the position of Laundry Supervisor. Upon getting to know her laundry team, Eva realized that Al stood out as a leader. "He is calm and firm and makes sure everything is in order," Eva says. Most important, Al is respected by his fellow team members. Whether he's doing hands-on work or in the office working on order forms, Al is constantly keeping busy. Al sets and maintains high standards for himself and has been an integral part of the laundry room team for the past 17 years. Al says he never expected to be here this long, but he loves working at the Club and enjoys the company of his fellow team members. 26 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | AUGUST 2013 ✪ Anna is not a fan of any candy that's colored blue. Women's Locker room Attendant Marlet joined the WAC team three years ago. Since then she has shown strong leadership on the 7th Floor. Her commitment to service, attention to detail, and caring and industrious work ethic have earned her numerous letters of praise from members. Because of this, she's also gained the support and respect of fellow team members. Marlet is a proactive problem-solver. She says her favorite part of the job is building strong relationships with members. "She's dedicated to a harmonious team spirit," Fitness Manager Megan Usui says. "She mentors fellow team members and knows how to have fun while at work." Wellness Manager Tamela Thomas is impressed by Marlet's interactions with members, her ability to anticipate members' needs, and how she exceeds expectations. "She's an incredible service-provider," Tamela says. "There isn't a person in the WAC at any level that could not take a lesson or two out of her playbook." Adds Vice President Athletics Wayne Milner: "Marlet is an absolute superstar." June Al Frigillana DID YOU KNOW? DID YOU KNOW? ✪ Al's mother, Nina, and brother, Ramil, also work at the WAC. ✪ He loves watching action-packed movies, especially ones with kung fu. ✪ This is the third time Al has received the Team Member of the Month Award since he started in 1996.
