Then get ready for SpeedLink at 6:30 pm, where you'll meet new people in three-minute link-ups. Get acquainted over light appetizers and a nohost bar on the 3rd Floor in the East Room. To receive WAC Link updates and reminders, email clubprograms@wac.net and write "Link List" in the subject line. (Planning ahead? Across from Seattle University on Capitol Hill, Von Trapp's is a stunning and enormous bier hall and restaurant remodeled from a former furniture showroom. All the tables and benches were inspired by the Hofbräuhaus in Munich, the chandeliers were purchased in Austria, and the hostess stand is a bistro wall from a restaurant in Germany. We've reserved three bocce ball courts and Von Trapp's mezzanine dining level, which overlooks the courts, for this evening of Oktoberfest fun. Family-style platters will allow you to try a variety of the restaurant's signature cuisine, including housemade sausages (such as bratwurst, cheddarwurst, bockwurst and kielbasa), Bavarian meatloaf sliders, sauerkraut, spätzle, and housemade pretzels. You'll also receive coupons for two glasses of European or American wine or beer, or four beer mini-samplers. Additional beverages, including cocktails, are available on an individual pay basis. Bocce instructions will be provided, and seven people can play each court for up to an hour. So don your lederhosen and Tyrolean hats and head for Von Trapp's to celebrate Oktoberfest the WAC way. Dinner, two drinks, optional bocce, and themed favors included. 5:30–8:30 pm; $48; cancel by October 8 38 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | AUGUST 2013 H au n t e d M o v i e Night Rocky Horror Picture Show at Central Cinema NEW Tuesday, October 29 It's weird, it's wonderful, it's Halloween! Kick off your Halloween celebrations with an excuse to dress up (costumes encouraged, but not required). Hit the town, enjoy a libation or two, munch on some food, and watch the hilarious cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Central Cinema, dubbed Seattle's most fun movie theatre, will host this exclusive WAC night. At Seattle's only dine-in cinema, members will be treated to pre-movie appetizers and cocktails. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is part campy musical, part horror film, and details the travels of a squeaky clean couple stranded at a creepy castle where the inhabitants sing and dance through a bacchanalian romp of murder, bisexuality and cannibalism. Let this night out at the movies get you into the Halloween spirit. Event includes movie ticket, pre-show heavy appetizers, and one alcoholic beverage. 6–8:30pm; $48; cancel by October 11 ESCAPADES Kirkland Art & More Wednesday, August 14 Join Club Programs' Robert Laurent as he leads a walking tour of a dozen or more whimsical, dynamic and poignant sculptures and artworks that adorn the downtown commercial area's parks, sidewalks and intersections.
