The Gateway Project wrapped up in early May, bringing a new terrazzo floor and sophisticated lighting—as well as advanced technology and increased flexibility—to the Club's most visible indoor space. The renovated entry combines modern features and historical touches and offers an adaptability that balances the room's roles as point of first impression and social gathering hub. Construction began early this year. Final touches will include custom-designed area rugs, expected to arrive in June. Features dating to 1930 were renovated and saved as part of the Gateway Project, and the new lobby pays homage to the original Clubhouse's designation as a Seattle Historic Landmark. "This project presented a wonderful opportunity to bring together the Club's past and present," WAC President & CEO Chuck Nelson says. "We're getting great feedback from our members, and we look forward to watching as the new space serves members and guests for years to come." 16 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | JUNE / JULY 2013
