WAC® MAGAZINE June/July 2013 Volume 32, Numbers 6 & 7 ISSN 1091-7985 Washington Athletic Club® 1325 Sixth Ave., Seattle, WA 98101 206.622.7900 / fax 206.464.3058 Letter from the President & CEO Chuck Nelson, President & Chief Executive Officer / cnelson@wac.net Staying great through change T he Washington Athletic Club is justifiably proud of its history. Since 1930, the WAC has served its members and the greater Seattle community. I can only imagine how many members the Club has had, cumulatively, in its 83 years—or how many events have been held, how many meals have been served, how many friendships and business relationships have been formed within the walls of this historic landmark. I do know that the Club continues to focus on providing the best venue in Seattle for those kinds of things to happen, as well as making sure we honor our history and participate in the community. The WAC has always been the place where good things happen for our members. It is where productive ideas, large and small, are conceived and built—for business and for service to Seattle. We will stay that home for good things in Seattle. Ironically, to stay, we must adapt and grow, for improvement can only come with change. The Gateway Project is a great example of that, as we create a facility that can provide new and dynamic appearance and functionality for our members. This issue of WAC Magazine highlights some of the many improvements this new-look lobby will bring (see page 16). Changes also continue in our food and beverage world. With member feedback and a new Vice President Food & Beverage, we are pushing change with a more specific "new American" branding in Torchy's and Torchy's Bar; incorporating local and regional products and a variety of seasonal menu styles; and adding more healthy, vegetarian, and gluten-free items. Our popular happy hour will get even happier as we extend until 7 pm daily and rotate in new delicious small-plate items. Read more about our dining changes and meet our newest vice president, Peter Christian, beginning on page 28. You'll also see some exciting facilities changes as summer progresses. Great things are happening in the WAC restaurants, and frequent visits are the best way to keep up with the fun. This issue also features our commitment to being a part of this community. In addition to the hundreds of charitable and social events held in the Clubhouse, the Club is out and about doing things, too. Although the Blue Angels will be sorely missed at the WAC, we continue to partner with Seafair in many ways. Also, remember that WAC members can attend the Boeing Classic simply by showing their WAC card. Let us know how we can help you have a great summer.
