The former head of rei was nominated by President barack obama and confirmed by the Senate. She joined the WAC in 1992. During a recent hike of old rag mountain in Shenandoah National Park, she spoke to The New York Times. "There are very few roles i would say on this planet compared to the one that i've been asked to serve in," she said. As head of the interior Department, Sally oversees America's national parks, including olympic, mount rainier, and North Cascades. She has reached the summit of mount rainier seven times. She's also in charge of an $11 billion budget, 70,000 employees, supervising oil extraction on public lands and waters, protecting endangered species, and coordinating federal relations with American indian tribes. Sally was featured in the August 2012 issue of WAC Magazine after winning a Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service. The ANNUAl KiDS indoor Triathlon raced through the Club in late April. fifteen children ages 6–14 participated. The bicycle leg on the 4th floor drew a large spectator crowd that cheered for young cyclists pedaling on stationary bikes. After the bike leg, racers headed straight to the 8th floor track. Afterward, they jumped in the pool for the final leg of the race. All of the kids demonstrated agility and speed as they progressed from leg to leg. mack Dolsen came from eastern Washington to compete for the first time. lawrence lorbiecki competed for his third year in a row, finishing top in his age group. A post-race celebration with the WACness monster rounded out the fun. TASTING NOTES: While Dunham's reds have built the lion's share of the vineyard's reputation, this little 375-milliliter gem shows how Dunham is emerging as a serious Riesling player. On display in this intensely aromatic wine are notes of pineapple, orange rind, and clay, complemented by the acid-sugar balance. The harvest of 2008, in fact, brought strong acid development to many Washington whites. DISCOVERY: The complexity you're looking for in this wine may come to you as a Campari-bitter tinge of orange flavors followed by notes of honey and caramel imparted from the botrytis of the harvested grape clusters. As a late November harvest, the yields from this estate were very low and the resulting wine is a proud accomplishment from the winemaking team of Eric Dunham and Dan Wampfler. Several food pairing combinations come to mind, but it can also be enjoyed at the end of a meal all by itself. — Peter Christian is WAC Vice President Food & Beverage and a Level 1 Sommelier.
