Monday: 5:15–6 pm Changing his game By Joshua Stollenmaier MEET THE ATHLETE Chris Blais captained the University of Michigan men's soccer team and led the Wolverines to the Final Four in 2010 before being drafted by the San Jose Earthquakes. Chris has since returned to his hometown of Seattle and now serves as a director at Herd Freed Hartz executive search partners. He also plays in the WAC men's basketball league. When did you start playing sports? I played on my first basketball and soccer teams when I was 4 years old. What made you choose soccer as your main sport in college? I played both basketball and soccer competitively in high school. I chose to pursue soccer because of the scholarship offers I received. With so much soccer experience, why did you join the WAC basketball league? Even though I played soccer in college and professionally, basketball was always my first love. I was interested in playing in the WAC league because it is the best league in Seattle. It's very competitive, especially our A league. It's full of college basketball players and other athletes, and it is very well-run. Do you miss playing professionally? I do miss the competitiveness, but I don't miss the day-to-day grind. What do you like most about playing hoops at the WAC? I enjoy the competition and meeting fellow peers at the Club and building relationships, both professionally and personally. Outside of league play, how else do you use the WAC? My favorite places are definitely our basketball court and the steam room. Staying fit must be important to you. What tips would you offer others looking to get active? For anyone who wants to get into shape, find something you enjoy, whether it's swimming or basketball or running. For me, basketball is better than running on a treadmill or other exercises because I love the game. It motivates me to come in every day.
