N E W 7th Annual Scavenger Hunt on Lake Union Friday, July 25 Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, here comes our 7th annual Scavenger Hunt on Lake Union. This summer event has become a favorite group activity, and each year, the competi- tion increases for the bragging rights of fin- ishing first. Begin by selecting someone to be captain and pilot of your 10-person electric Duffy boat before heading out into heated (but friendly) competition afloat. As you race around Lake Union, your mission is to work as a team to solve a list of crafty clues and puzzling riddles to determine the identity of items visible from the lake. You have two hours to complete the task. The first boat to return with the most correct answers wins a prize. Each year the scaven- ger hunt has a new mix of clues so every- one has a fair shot. Since you'll be burning up brain fuel as you solve the clues, plenti- ful platters of finger food, sweets, bottled water, and soft drinks are included onboard. You may also bring your own beer, wine and music to help spark your creative thinking. Put together your own team of 10 friends and family, or we'll partner you at the dock when we meet on the west side of Lake Union. Remember, play host for a day of dive bar diversion. Tour includes round-trip transportation, brunch, and one beverage per venue. 11 am–6pm; $75; cancel by May 23 N E W Putt Putt at the Rusty Putter Wednesday, July 16 What do putters, golf balls, and lush greens have in common? You guessed it: mini golf at the Rusty Putter at The Golf Club at Newcastle. Teams of four will compete on the 18-hole natural grass-putting course, complete with bunkers. Whether you have the talent of Tiger Woods, or model your skills after Happy Gilmore, this night on the links is just for you. Prizes will be awarded to the "Prized Putter," "Terrific Team," and "Best luck with one stroke." Bonus points will be awarded to those who wear their best golf outfit. Sign up individually or as a team of four. Includes 18 holes of mini golf, heavy appetizers, and an alcoholic beverage. No-host bar available. O R G N E W Urban Farming at the Millionair Club Charity Wednesday, May 21 There's excited buzz and media coverage about something new in Belltown's Millionair Club Charity: a hydroponic farm in the basement. Chris Bajuk, Millionair Club Urban Farming Initiative manager and founder of UrbanHarvest, has created a 250-square-foot garden growing extremely healthy, leafy greens that are pesticide-free. The garden uses 2.5 percent of the space of a traditional farm, energy-efficient LED lights, and a computerized water-filtration system to produce enough greens for 1,600 bowls of salad a month. The greens are used to feed home- less and jobless visitors to the Millionair Club shelter, with the rest being sold to local restaurants. The 93-year-old Millionair Club provides employment opportu- nities, meals, other social services to thousands of people a year. The money raised from selling the produce will be used to enhance the club's successful jobs training program, which now includes teaching hydroponic farming. Join us as Bajuk takes us on a tour of the Millionair Club and his hydroponic farm. Everyone will get to take home a plant. After the tour, optional lunch is two blocks away at Six Seven at The Edgewater Hotel. Transportation is not included. 10:30 am–1 pm; $28 for tour and lunch, $10 tour only; cancel by May 16 36 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | APRIL 2014 CLUB PROGRAMS 206.464.3060 • clubprograms@wac.net
