A wEt MArAthoN A virtual Lake Washington 15-mile swimming marathon was held at the WAC Pool from January through May. A huge map of the lake was posted on the Athletic Department wall, where participants marked their progress after every session. The race drew 65 WAC members. world-class kicks Exercise of the Month The WAC Will be PArT World champion handball player Paul Brady won it all at the WAC. DiNNEr AND DANciNg A themed dinner and dance celebrated 365 days before the opening of the Seattle World's Fair. PAiNtiNg thE wALLS A WAC art instructor and her students painted the walls of the Club auditorium. WAC members used the auditorium as a Shipwreck Room, which served as a cocktail lounge while the Jade Room was being refurnished and enlarged. The temporary painting depicted a sea scene with gulls, lighthouses, mermaids, and wrecked ships. SEAFAir BrEEzE The Club served luncheon buffets throughout Seafair week to celebrate the Seafair spirit. The U.S. men's national soccer team will play Panama on Tuesday, June 11, at Centurylink field. A day beforehand, the WAC will host representatives from the U.S. Soccer federation, the governing body of U.S. soccer, for a roundtable conversation in the Crystal room. local soccer leaders will join the discussion. This exercise targets your thighs, calves, glutes and core. 1. Stand with feet parallel and hipdistance apart. Place ball between inner thighs with arms extended in front. 2. Squeeze ball with thighs, lift heels and bend knees. Extend arms overhead. Holding here, pulse down and up about one inch, keeping heels lifted throughout, activating buttocks, and engaging strong core connection. Try 50 reps. Exercise modifications Finish by holding the lowered position for 30 seconds and pulsing thighs together, squeezing ball. Players earned their spots in the elite field by accumulating race points in six stops between october 2012 and April 2013. "every player sets his goal to qualify for Seattle when the season starts," fourth-ranked pro and World Players of handball Development Director David fink says.
