Because your feet and ankles serve as the foundation of your entire body, the importance of correcting problems in these areas cannot be overstated. Mondays: 3–5 pm; one full business day cancellation required to avoid charge Rolfing Rolfing helps ease discomfort from many different causes, including back pain, repetitive-motion injury, trauma, and aging. With the help of Rolfing, you can improve your performance in professional and daily activities. Rolfing practitioner Tom Robinson uses mild and direct pressure to release holdings of fascia—the body's internal system of flexible support that surrounds every muscle fiber, encases all joints, and plays a role in the nervous system. The function of muscle fascia is to reduce friction and thereby minimize the loss of muscular force. Studies show that Rolfing engenders more efficient use of muscles, allows the body to conserve energy, creates more refined patterns of movement, improves alignment, and enhances neurological function. $115; information and appointments: 206.839.4780, wellness@wac.net; one full business day cancellation required to avoid charge Body Composition Analysis Have your body fat measured with a professional-grade segmental bioimpedance analyzer. A Metabolic Exercise Test (MET) measures your body's specific physiological response to exercise. While you work out on your preferred cardio equipment, we'll monitor your oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide production, and heart rate. The data will show how your body uses different fuels at various workloads. You'll also learn the heart rate at which your body burns the most fat and the rate at which your body burns the most calories. Use the information to monitor your heart rate and to burn maximum fat and calories. Combine your MET with an eight-week zone training program to change your physiology, help your body become a better fat-burning machine, and increase your overall physical fitness. Undergo a Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) assessment as well to determine the number of calories per day your body needs to maintain its current self. By measuring oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production, this test determines the percentage of calories you burn as fat versus carbohydrates. When you know your RMR, you can set your daily caloric input (diet) and output (exercise) to the exact caloric number that will allow you to either lose or maintain weight. MET or RMR: $200, MET and RMR: $375, MET, RMR and heart-rate monitor: $475, retest only: $160; by appointment only; one full busi- ness day cancellation required to avoid charge Naturopathic Medicine Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are licensed physicians who treat acute and chronic illnesses with the goal of achieving optimum health.
