Next, learn about the Northwest Wine Academy, where students and hobbyists pursue their passion for wine by attaining a certificate in winemaking, wine marketing and sales, or food and wine pairing. Wine Academy students create award-winning wines from vine to wine in the only operating winery at a Western Washington college. Food and drink tickets not included. 9:30 am–8 pm; $60; cancel by September 26 N E W Twilight Noodle Slurp Friday, November 4 Sip rich broth, twirl noodles on your chopsticks, and celebrate stories of local history and artistry as the afternoon turns into night. Following the sold-out success of last year's International Dumpling Crawl, we're partnering with the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience for another walking food and culture tour through the International District. Begin in the museum's theater with an introduction to noodles. Discover their origins and learn how they adapted globally after leaving China. Then sample some of the many noodles offered in the neighborhood and learn about the art of noodle-making. You'll gain insight into the area's history and hear fascinating stories as you slurp noodle dishes of all kinds. 4:30–7:30 pm; $45 (adults), $38 (ages 65-plus); cancel by October 27 N E W Coffee Immersion at Starbucks Reserve Roastery & Tasting Room Wednesday, November 16 The 15,000-square-foot Starbucks Roastery on Capitol Hill has two coffee bars, two roasters, a scooping bar, a coffee library, a retail store, and a Tom Douglas Serious Pie. It's a Wonka-esque experience of coffee, with beans traveling in clear and copper tubes from roasting, to brewing, to your cup. Begin your visit in the library for a region-style tasting of three coffees, brewing demonstrations using a Chemex and a French press, and a discussion on coffee- tasting basics, brewing techniques, and geographical influence on flavor. Then learn about the history and design of the The Best of Seattle Now & Then with Paul Dorpat and Jean Sherrard Tuesday, October 18 Popular documentary photographer, historian, and author Paul Dorpat has written his weekly Now & Then column for Pacific NW Magazine for over three decades. Since 1982 he has paired a historical photo of Seattle with a present-day photo from the same viewpoint and told the story of what was happening in the past and in the present. Dorpat has published a dozen books, including three volumes of regional photographic comparisons drawn from his column. In 2004, photographer Jean Sherrard began collaborating with Dorpat and contributing current photos to his work. Together, they plan to release the book e Best of Seattle Now & en. We are pleased to have them at the WAC for a preview of some of their best images. Enjoy Dorpat's dry humor and lively commentary from Sherrard during this entertaining and enlightening evening.
