This exercise strengthens the hip and oblique muscles and reduces the risk of lower back and shoulder stress. 1. Start in a push-up position with your feet shoulder-width apart. 2. Bring one arm off the ground and to your hip, shifting your weight to remain in push-up position. Hold for 30–60 seconds. 3. Gently return your arm to the starting position. Repeat with your other arm, again holding for 30–60 seconds. Rest after both arms are done. Repeat three to four times on each arm as you are able. EXERCISE OF THE MONTH ARE YOU READY? Fifteen Navy members and two U.S. Marines stopped by the Club in early August for our third annual Host a Sailor. The event began with drinks and appetizers in the Noble Room. Afterward, the service members and WAC members hit the town. The event is a chance for the groups to connect, and for WAC members to show off Seattle. "This annual tradition of connecting to our military community has meant so much to the WAC," says WAC Vice President Membership & Marketing Michelle Pinson, who organizes the event. "Our visiting sailors express a great deal of appreciation for being hosted, and the WAC community is deeply appreciative of the time we get to spend with them, as well." The fourth annual Host a Sailor will take place in early August 2017. WAC members can reserve early by emailing Michelle at mpinson@wac.net. Welcoming the Navy END THE SUMMER on a high note with Labor Day, the last three-day weekend of the season. Check out our special hours at wac.net/holiday-hours. Hot to trot! WAC MEMBERS AND Special Olympics athletes came together for a monthlong dance series taught by ballroom instructor John Delapena. The classes were complimentary for Special Olympics participants and focused on promoting social inclusion through shared training. Delapena taught dancers the rhumba, cha- cha, and foxtrot, and smiles ruled at every class. Special Olympics Washington is a WAC Community Partner. J O H N B A N G ( 3 ) J O H N B A N G ( 2 )
