A la Carte By Peter Christian, Vice President Food & Beverage No rest for the hungry Our new Grab & Go service keeps you moving W hen many of us think of what's hip on the food scene we conjure up images of crowded food trucks, celebrity chefs, little-known vegetables, or specialty cuts of hard-to-find meats. I love all of that. But there's another movement that has quietly taken hold of the foodie scene—healthy and delicious meals that are ready to go when you are. Recent changes to the 8th Floor Sports Café exemplify the movement to offer good eats that also provide speed and convenience. Perhaps nowhere else in the city is the need for quick and nutritious options more evident than at the WAC. Our members are, after all, both busy and health-conscious. You want it fresh. You want it tasty. And you want it now! We get it. at's why many of the salads, soups, and other meals you previously waited in line for are now available for you to grab and go. In fact, that's what we're calling our new speedy service. You'll find Grab & Go meals, snacks and beverages available for purchase in the Sports Café as well as the Club Shop on the lobby level. Both locations offer convenience for members as they leave the Club and return to their busy lives. For us, Grab & Go isn't just about making it quick. It's also about delivering yummy house-made meals that power your life. Some of our recent offerings include Very Berry Almond Salad, ai Chicken Soup, and a Bonache Chicken Sandwich. at last item includes habañero sauce, fresh mozzarella, pepper-bacon, grilled chicken, romaine lettuce, and Bermuda onion. It's served on a Macrina Bakery potato roll with habañero sauce made by Bonache Sauce Co. of Ballard. Bonache habañero uses a Belize-inspired carrot-habañero- lime base and delivers mid-level heat that's perfect on many sandwich varieties. It's the company's flagship hot sauce and a great example of how we're keeping local producers front and center. Grab & Go will also showcase seasonal offerings, vegetarian options, gluten-free entrées, take-home dinners, and packaged soups from the WAC kitchen. Not only that, but a new selection of beverages to-go in the Sports Café covers every need from beer and wine to sports drinks and nutritional pick-me-ups. Here's to keeping you and your family healthy—and moving. L U K E R U TA N ( 3 ) 10 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | OCTOBER 2014
