14 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | OCTOBER 2014 10 years of great golf WAC–sponsored event draws record crowd U nder partly sunny August skies, a golfer with no previous Champions Tour titles won the 10th annual Boeing Classic in a sudden-death playoff. Scott Dunlap beat Mark Brooks, a seven-time PGA winner, with a short birdie putt on the first playoff hole. Dunlap shot 16 under par to take home the first-place prize of $300,000. It was the fifth playoff in Boeing Classic history. e championship round drew 32,000 fans, a single- day attendance record. Some 94,000 people attended six days of events, including the three-day tournament. e Boeing Classic has been a WAC Community Partner since it began 10 years ago. e multiday event has raised $5 million in the last decade for area charities. e primary beneficiary this year was the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason. As always, WAC team members and members volunteered at the classic in various capacities, enjoying the beautiful grounds of TPC Snoqualmie Ridge.
