Senior Vice President Wayne Milner recently provided a homework assignment to the Athletics Committee by challenging us to break from our normal workout routines and try something new. I took Wayne's challenge seriously and after careful consideration I decided to participate in the group training class Xcelerate— described as a "high-intensity multiphase workout designed to keep your body guessing and getting stronger." Upon my arrival at Xcelerate, I was greeted by WAC Personal Trainer Will Whatley and the other class participants—WAC members Jay Biagi, Maggy Elbring, Jason Elrod, and John Kerr. Will proceeded to lead us through a 45-minute workout program, tailoring the movements for each participant to match our individual fitness abilities and desired results. e class started with five minutes of warm-up exercises to loosen our muscles and get our hearts pumping. From there, Will guided us through a series of superset exercises that combined core, power and strength. It didn't take long until I had worked up a healthy sweat. I could definitely feel a difference in terms of the variety of muscles being worked. Halfway through the workout, I felt that familiar burn that means a program is working. e workout concluded with some intense interval training followed by a welcomed cool-down. I came away feeling tired but fulfilled knowing that I had stepped out of my normal comfort zone. is experience made me reflect further on the impressive (and growing) list of Club offerings designed to allow you to try something different. For example, WAC Athletics now offers more than 100 different group training classes in any given week. Club Programs continues to provide new and creative social and cultural events for members. Recently, those events have included everything from Tesla test drives to tours of Seattle dive bars. With an average of 1,000 attendees at their programs every month, Club Programs has a reputation for offering excellent networking experiences. So, I hereby challenge WAC members to break from your routine and try something new. After all, when was the last time you tried something for the first time? I'd sure enjoy hearing from those of you who do answer my challenge. Please email me and tell me about your experience. And I hope you have fun. Best regards, Try something new at the Club
