Stellar player By Naomi Thalenberg At age 17, Alison Lacey moved to Iowa from Australia for her senior year of high school as an exchange student. She went on to play for Iowa State and was drafted 10th overall by the Seattle Storm in 2010. This past June, Alison and husband T.J. Otzelerger, an assistant coach for the University of Washington men's basketball team, moved to Seattle. They joined the WAC in September, and Alison now plays on the WAC's women's basketball team. our team's Wednesday night workout session with trainer Will Hicks. I love any workout that's with a group. It makes it fun, and the time goes by faster. What has been your experience thus far playing basketball at the WAC? I stopped playing basketball in 2011, so the WAC has been my first re-entry into playing. The team is fun, competitive, and everyone shows good camaraderie. It's nice belonging to a team again. What are you most looking forward to about playing for the WAC? I'm excited to play on a yearlong local league and to get to know more people with a similar basketball history. All of the girls on the team are really good— it's truly a great opportunity for me. How do you stay fit for basketball? I didn't know how much I missed basketball until I got back into it. Class includes work with heavy bags and focus mitts as well as light sparring and jump rope exercise.
