As you race around Lake Union, your mission is to solve a list of crafty clues and puzzling riddles to determine the identity of items visible from the lake. You have two hours to complete the task. The first boat to return with the most correct answers wins a prize. Each year the scavenger hunt has a new set of clues, so everyone has a fair shot. Since you���ll be burning up brain fuel, plentiful platters of finger foods, sweets, bottled water, and soft drinks are included onboard. You also may bring your own beer or wine to help energize your creative thinking. Put together your own team of 10, or we���ll partner you at the dock when we meet on the west side of Lake Union. Remember, it���s not about who wins or loses, it���s about how much fun you have while playing the game. This event is an entertaining WAC tradition perfect for singles, couples and groups. Then we���ll have a two-hour van and walking tour of the 114-acre treatment plant, art installations, and landscaped grounds complete with streams and miles of trails. See everything you���ve been told not to���or didn���t mean to���flush, trapped by large perforated screens. Witness the nation���s most advanced odor-control system. View integrated artwork, including a sparkling hand-blown glass installation inspired by the microbacteria that scrub dirty water at the plant. There is also a fully equipped education center with hands-on exhibits that explain the full process of wastewater treatment. Event includes a round-trip motor coach from the WAC, lunch, and tour. ESCApADES What would it be like to be a scientist living aboard an oceanographic research vessel that spends 270 days per year at sea? Welcome aboard the R/V Thomas G. Thompson, a 274-foot ship owned by the U.S. Navy and operated by the University of Washington Department of Oceanography. In a rare opportunity, go aboard and tour this ship while it���s moored in Portage Bay at UW. Port Captain Bill Rall and a research vessel technician will be our tour guides as we explore this floating laboratory, which houses up to 36 scientists and 22 crew. We���ll see everything from research labs to massive deck equipment. This is a fascinating and educational tour with time for questions and answers with officers and scientists. Please be aware the tour includes steep stairs/ladders. Following our tour, lunch is included at the nearby Seattle Yacht Club. At a cost of more than $1.8 billion, it���s the most expensive wastewater endeavor in King County���s history and was dubbed ���The Taj Mahal of Sewage��� by Seattle Times writer Danny Westneat. Join us as we learn how much water we use, the process for cleaning it, and how wastewater can be recycled into reusable water, energy, and nutrients for plants and soil. Some say the original sketch was drawn on a cocktail napkin at the WAC. Four floors of educational galleries, images, models, nostalgic artifacts, mini theaters, and interactive media invite you to discover how history has shaped culture in the Pacific Northwest through times of triumph and struggle. Learn about the museum���s move from the Montlake location���the why and how, the challenges and joys, and the four million artifacts!
