So can the wrong shoes. WAC members can now find a solution for painful feet and related phys- ical structures at the Wellness Center. Virginia Mason Medical Center podiatric physicians offer gait analysis, orthotics eval- uations and castings, among other services. Because your feet and ankles serve as the foundation of your entire body, the impor- tance of correcting problems in these areas cannot be overstated. Virginia Mason providers offer a measured and prioritized approach to get you up and running—or walking—with reduced pain and increased confidence. Most podiatry services are covered by insurance. It also relieves stress and improves performance in pro- fessional and daily activities. Rolfing prac- titioner Sara Bayer uses mild, direct pres- sure to release holdings of fascia—the body's internal system of flexible support that surrounds every muscle fiber, encases all joints and has a role in the nervous system. The slow, deep strokes stimulate sensory neurons of the muscle nerve, trig- gering the nervous system to reduce ten- sion. Thus, the body finds health through the re-establishment of balance. Studies show that Rolfing engenders more efficient use of the muscles, allows the body to conserve energy and creates more- refined patterns of movement. Rolfing significantly improves alignment and enhances neurological function. Moreover, for anyone taking antidepressants, researchers have found better results when such medications are taken concurrent with vitamin B12 shots. Vitamin B12 plays an important role in protecting us from heart disease, supports healthy circulation, immune function, red blood cell production, mood regulation, memory, concentration and mental clarity.
