"This recognition is a great tribute to our team members, executive leadership and, most important, to our members," WAC President & CEO Chuck Nelson said. that promotes excellence in the private club community, delivers the Platinum awards every three years. Given out since 1997, the Platinum awards honor the best in six club categories: country clubs, residential communities, golf, city/dining, yacht, and athletic. "The receipt of the Platinum Club award once ou belong to the best private club in Washington state. The WAC was recently awarded the 2012 5 Star Platinum Club of America award, the club in Washington state and one of the top four nationally. Perhaps most remarkable, the Club has received 5 Star Platinum recognition every year the award has been given. "We're thrilled—but not surprised—to be Club Leaders Forum, an independent organization again is tremendous validation that the WAC continues to be keenly focused on the well-being of its members," said Chairman of the Board Jeff Atkin, noting the WAC has won consistently regardless of national economic strengths or challenges. "It shows that we have successfully run our Club with a solid long-term view and with the ability to adapt to the challenges of the times," he said. For 2012, the WAC was named the best athletic awarded the Platinum award for the sixth consecutive time," Chuck said. "The broad range of criteria on which the award is based mirrors the full scope of commitment that the WAC has to fulfilling our mission of enriching the quality of life of our members." The peer-awarded Platinum designations come via nominations by club managers and presidents nationwide. "The Platinum clubs are the top 4 percent of clubdom," said John R. Sibbald, originator of the awards. The awards honor clubs for their quality of membership, tradition and culture, amenities, governance, and quality of management and staff. The WAC's wellness program also continues to set the Club above the competition. That program includes a holistic approach to wellness that incorporates the social as well as the physical. "If they are giving awards, we want to win them," Chuck said. "But our true joy is serving our members every day." OCTOBER 2012 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | 25
