Teamworks TEAM MEMBER OF THE MONTH APRIL › TOM MILLER › ACCOUNTING It's no surprise his co-workers marked their calendars for April 1, 2012. That was Tom Miller's first anniversary of WAC employment— and therefore his first day of eligibility to be nominated as Team Member of the Month. Tom actually began working at the WAC as a Membership temp in fall 2010. When that ended, he tried other jobs but missed the WAC. When Vice President Membership & Marketing Michelle Pinson heard he wanted to come back, she said it was "a dream." Michelle says Tom has a very authentic way of offering a high level of service to WAC members. "That natural spark really creates a lasting positive impression," Michelle says. This past January, Tom moved to the Accounting team, where he now works as a billing and revenue coordinator. Controller Sandy Cramer calls Tom "a superstar" and says he "has a natural comfort interacting with members." MAY › IAN DeVERA › ROOM SERVICE If you see someone on the 2nd Floor greeting at the podium, running food in Torchy's and Hagerty's, bussing tables, delivering room service, helping groups in the Gold and Silver rooms, or expediting in the kitchen, then you probably recognize Ian DeVera. "Ian is someone the whole team is always happy to have on shift," says Restaurant Operations Manager Danielle Crowson. Ian started as a busser in Torchy's and quickly became a jack of many trades. He now focuses on room service but often steps up to help wherever it's needed. "I am deeply grateful for his work ethic and wonderful attitude," bartender Kevin Broadie says. "It makes my job—and everyone else's job—easier with Ian on our team." JUNE › AMANDA SCHWANITZ › CATERING As Catering Sales Coordinator, Amanda Schwanitz handles bookings for the Club's meeting and banquet rooms. She coordinates menu and setup details for all types of events, from business meetings to silent auctions, fundraisers and weddings. "She genuinely cares about the membership and offering them the highest level of service," Vice President Food & Beverage Robert Bonina says. Club Programs Event Coordinator Cheryl M. Simmons praises Amanda's "proactive approach and integrity." In a position that presents challenges and surprises, Amanda handles herself with grace and keeps cool under pressure. 16 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | OCTOBER 2012
