There has been a giant deal of discus- sion on balancing the need to take care of our members, facilities and staff. It should come as no surprise that with so much focus on our challenges I rarely have found myself concentrating on the positive side. For this reason, I was particularly pleased to learn of our Club once again being awarded 5 Star Platinum Club of America recognition. It's a reminder to me that in spite of our day-to-day issues, we are still at the top of our game, admired by peers. So while my first reaction was that we must be doing something right, the truth is that we are doing many things extraordinarily well. In evaluating clubs, the Platinum awards take into consideration the quality of member governance, membership, tradition and heritage, facilities, amenities, and staff and management. Since I have responsibility for overseeing member leadership, let me start by recognizing all of the more than 200 individuals who serve on our extensive committee structure. The WAC has nine standing committees and one additional committee. These committees cover all key aspects of the Club. The most recent addition is the reconstitution of the Food & Beverage Committee. Chaired by John Myer, this group is charged with reviewing and advising on all aspects of our food and beverage business in order to help it be the best. To those who serve on all of our committees, I offer my sincere thanks. You are the eyes and ears of the full membership, and I hope you get as much satisfaction with our receipt of the Platinum award as I have. Finally, let me recognize our Club management and all of the team members who ensure the WAC is run in a manner we all feel good about. Taking care of more than 12,000 members and spouses of various ages, interests, quirks and standards is not an easy task, particularly when it's spread across a broad range of businesses like we have under our umbrella. It takes focus and the right attitude—criteria that are critical if we hope to retain happy members. The current service initiative brought forward by President & CEO Chuck Nelson will clearly take us to the next level. I hope you have personally noticed the impact of this effort in your dealings with WAC personnel. In closing, let me mention that we have scheduled our membership meeting for Thursday evening, October 25. I encourage everybody to attend and take advantage of this opportunity to get to know Chuck and his leadership staff as well as member leadership.
