SE AFAIR TRIATHLON 2016 OCTOBER TRI/CYCLE SOCIAL Interested in learning more about the Tri/Cycle Club? Join the group at its October social in Hagerty's. Meet fellow athletes and enjoy speakers Andrew Malinak, Steve Ruiter, and Eric Williamson. This past September, Malinak became just the eighth person known to swim unassisted across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The long-distance swimmer will discuss that accomplishment and others at the social. Ruiter, a WAC member, is also a long-distance swimmer, and Williamson is the coach of the WAC Masters Swim Team. The social will take place 6–8 pm on Thursday, October 27, and is free to all WAC members and guests. For more information, email tricycleclub@wac.net. RECAPPING SEAFAIR TRIATHLON Close to three dozen WAC athletes—including members and team members—competed in the 2016 Seafair Triathlon this summer. The event centered on Seward Park, where the WAC also offered massage and a hospitality tent. WAC Tri/Cycle Club members led the Club contingent, competing as individuals and relay teams in the three-sport race. Olympic- and sprint- distance events offered athletes a choice of either a one-mile swim, 20-mile bike, and 10-kilometer run or a half-mile swim, 12-mile bike, and five-kilometer run. "It was truly incredible to watch our athletes on the course," WAC Tri/Cycle Coach Julie Vieselmeyer said. "From our newbies to our experienced racers, the team motivated each other in training, and it was great to see their hard work and commitment pay off on race day." The WAC is the official athletic club of the Seafair Triathlon. SEAFAIR TRIATHLON 2016 PHO T OGR A PH Y BY CHRIS J. K A L INK O SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 2016 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | 61
