The sounds of pounding hooves and pounding hearts give the sport of thoroughbred racing its own rhythm, intensity, even its own language. Take in all of the glory that is horse racing and spend a day at Emerald Downs. Whether you are an expert or novice in horse racing, this event is for you! Enjoy the sights and sounds of race day from a Triple Crown Suite, which will feature private wagering, stunning views of the race track as well as a full buffet brimming with iced prawns, flank steak and much more. This is a one-of-a-kind experience that you won't want to miss. Get ready to don your best Derby-like hat and finest race wear, as business casual dress is a must! Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Building Tour Thursday, May 3—SOLD OUT Global impact, inspiring vision, education and generosity. These words represent the actions and beliefs of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's work and leaders. Our guided tour of the newly opened visitor center will give you an overview of the foundation's work and its global efforts to help people lead healthy and productive lives. The interactive exhibits showcase some of the progress made by the founda- tion and its belief that all lives have equal value. The compelling stories of founda- tion grantees and partners will encourage reflection and action as well as inspire involvement. One of the newest additions to the Seattle skyline, the Gates Foundation campus, located near Seattle Center, further expands the Gateses' impact on our remarkable city. Meet at the Gates Foundation for the 90-minute tour. Afterward, we'll walk to New York Pizza and Bar, about one block away, for hosted beverages and light appetizers. 3:30 pm; $25; cancel by April 23 Opening Day of Boating Season on the Virginia V Saturday, May 5 A tradition since 1920, the Opening Day of boating season parade is Seattle's colorful and tradi- tional rite of spring. It brings hundreds of boats to the city's waters and thousands of spectators to nearby vantage points. Join the annual festivities aboard the historic Virginia V, the last of the famed Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet. Board the ship at (South) Lake Union Park before it sails to Portage Bay and positions itself among classic yachts and other deco- rated maritime vessels for the parade. After sailing through the Montlake Cut, you'll spend a rollicking time cruising Lake Washington while enjoying an onboard band, bountiful buffet and cash bar.
