I encourage you to do the same. Think of the WAC when planning a rendezvous with friends, dinner or a drink with colleagues, when considering spa treatments, or when you decide it's time to see a personal trainer. If you need to pick up a last-minute gift, park downtown, or hold a business meeting, think of the WAC. And when bigger events such as weddings, con- ferences or retreats enter your thinking, the Club can be a great resource and a fantastic venue. If you're planning to spend the money anyway, why not think of the WAC? Just a little more use by each and every member will go a long way toward lifting ne of my New Year's resolutions this year was to try to get more out of my Washington Athletic Club membership. I'm happy to say I have been using the WAC more and that doing so has enabled me to appreciate more of the levels of activity at our Club to where they were before the recent downturn in the economy. Because of various cost-control measures instituted during the past four years, the WAC is in good shape financially, and I'm excited to see member terminations continue to decline. But what will really help the Club is for all of us to get in the habit of thinking of the WAC first each and every time we plan something. Consider the following: • Our restaurants include Torchy's fine dining, Hagerty's Sports Bar, and the 8th Floor Sports Café. • The Spa at the WAC offers massages, pedicures, manicures, facials and all the services of a salon. • The Club puts on or sells tickets to more than 300 activities each year. This includes in-Club events, musicals, sporting events, and local and regional tours. • The lobby Club Shop and 6th Floor Sport Shop offer a variety of logo apparel and exceptional gift ideas. • The WAC Garage offers special discounts to members and is one of the safest places in downtown to park. You can purchase a member discount card that buys $100 of parking for $80. • Club meeting spaces include the Noble Room; Johnson Lobby Lounge; and Crystal Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 300 people. Speaking of the Crystal Ballroom, the beautifully remodeled space is a lovely venue for a wedding. But don't wait too long to book your spot. Our summer dates are filling fast, and we have almost 20 weddings planned before the end of this year. I really encourage each and every member to think of the WAC first. If everyone came to the Club just once more each month—or planned an event, or met a friend for a drink—we could become stronger than ever. Now, about that other resolution of mine: The Club can help me with that extra five pounds around the middle, too. 4 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | APRIL 2012
