Interactive displays bring the legacy of the Tulalip people to life as told in their own words and voices. The expansive, 23,000-square-foot center includes permanent and temporary exhibits of Tulalip history and artifacts, historic canoes and archeology, a longhouse, classrooms, research library, nature preserve, and gift shop. Our one-hour docent tour will take us through the journey of the Tulalip. Find out about their binding relationship to cedar and Mining Co., shop for homemade gifts in the general store, or visit the beer and wine garden. Then, at dusk, have some frightful fun with the flashlight corn maze and the very popular Zombie Safari Paintball Hayride. Thomas Family Farm humorously describes the hayride as "like a rollercoaster ... with guns ... and people trying to eat you." The paintballs glow in the dark, so there can be no mistaking when your paintball splatters a zombie (i.e., volunteers dressed in full protective gear). You can also purchase tickets for onsite activities such as KUBE 93's haunted house and pre- dusk children's recreation. Our evening base of operation will be a reserved firepit with plenty of s'mores fixings. Outside alcohol is not allowed, but you can bring your own food or purchase from the food court. An 11,000-square-foot barn houses the food court, beer garden, general store, and haunted house, with the maze, pumpkin patch, and kid area nearby. Our "hot party" is a group glassblowing workshop at Seattle Glassblowing Studio. The "hot" refers to the state-of-the-art hot shop and 2,000-degree kilns—and to the popularity of these classes, which sell out every year. Join us and create two items (such as pumpkins, apples, ornaments, bowls, or vases) with assistance from the studio's professional glassblowing team. The artists will help as you select your colors, dip the molten blob into crushed glass, fire it in the kilns, and then blow it to the perfect size and shape. After cooling a few days, your objets d'art will be available for pickup at the WAC. The evening includes wine, beer, bottled water, and a dinner buffet. The relaxed setup allows you to eat while watching others take turns blowing their one-of-a-kind glass treasures. Class sizes limited to 12. No experience necessary. 6–10 pm; $185; cancelations due two weeks prior to event date 44 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | AUGUST 2015 CLUB PROGRAMS 206.464.3060 • clubprograms@wac.net
