Letter from the President & CEO Chuck Nelson, President & Chief Executive Officer / cnelson@wac.net / @cnhuskies13 N ormally, these last months of summer are our only chance to enjoy the great weather. But this time around, summer got a head start. Even with the unusual temperatures, the growing membership of the WAC has been keeping the Club busy. Thank you for the great successes of our summer camps, for using the Inn for your visiting guests, and for making the WAC's wonderful restaurants your go-to places for lunch as well as for before- and after-show dining and drinks. The WAC is here for you! August signals the transition to a new WAC year, and in this issue of WAC Magazine we take the opportunity to look back at the accomplishments of the past 12 months. Much like watching your kids grow up—when the daily incremental changes are hard to notice but the annual family photo shows dramatic growth— it's fun to recount the evolution and improvement across all areas of the Club. The commitment to improve the facilities, programs and offerings, and to keep up the infrastructure of this wonderful historic building, is laid out for you in a timeline that tracks the upward path of the offerings and value of the Washington Athletic Club. Thank you to the Board of Governors and outgoing Chairman Kip Spencer for the strong work. Together we got a lot done in fiscal 2014–2015! We are also looking forward with great enthusiasm. On the cover and in-depth starting on page 30, we introduce your new Chairman of the Board, Tammy Young. Tammy brings great professional acumen and personal strength to the role, inspired by a well-founded belief in the power of the WAC to make people's lives better in many, many ways. There are good things ahead with an energetic Board and committees as well as a well-constructed Strategic Plan and Operating Plan that will continue to evolve the Club. Congratulations to the membership of the Washington Athletic Club. You are a member of a thriving, evolving, dynamic club, nationally recognized as one of America's best private city athletic clubs. Last year was a good one, and everybody involved at the corner of Sixth and Union is committed to making 2015–2016 even better. Thank you, Greatness behind us and ahead
