Take "My Little Bird," a mixed-media piece (pictured on the opposite page). The girl's posture speaks volumes while raising so many questions: Is she saying goodbye? Feeling regret? Is she burdened by the limitations of the young? Judith's works stay with you, inspiring thoughtful meditation on universal imagery that is both familiar and mysterious. The power of her art has led the Crystal Bridges Museum of Contemporary American Art to consider Judith as one of the finalists out of 10,000 artists for a groundbreaking exhibition of 102 great, but unheralded, contemporary American artists. "My works are subtle, psychological, and very nuanced," Judith says. "I create art about our desires, the human condition, and the common things that are true for all of us and how we respond to them. I'm not aiming to hit anyone over the head. I want to show the contrast between the peace and conflict in our lives." When she wants to get out of her studio, she enjoys coming to the Club to unwind and socialize. Her husband, who has been a member for decades, works out at the Club almost every day. For her part, Judith has recently started meeting with a WAC Personal Trainer. The 65 year old also says she'd like to start taking advantage of the Club's Wellness programs as she has been recovering from a back injury. "I know it's important to take care of myself if I want to keep being healthy enough to produce art for many more years to come, " she says. "And the WAC will play an important role in that." Ali Basye is a freelance writer based in Seattle. Judith's work "stays with you, inspiring thoughtful meditation." In her studio, her art comes at you from all sides. Judith recently met with WAC Personal Trainer Mona Caravetta to start discussing a new workout routine.
