22 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | SEPTEMBER 2014 Teamworks APRIL DAVE ESTRELLA LAUNDRY ATTENDANT MAY ERIC IGAMA SPORT SHOP ATTENDANT In his eight years at the WAC, Eric has worked on the 8th Floor with the basketball league, on the 5th Floor in Men's Fitness, and now on the 6th Floor as a Sport Shop Attendant. He keeps the shop in order, helps members reserve athletic courts and sells sporting goods. Men's Fitness Attendant Adrian Leano says Eric "constantly displays a positive attitude and tremendous customer service." Men's Fitness Manager Bill Munn says he received a phone call from a member who said that Eric "treats the members great, goes out of his way to meet their individual needs, treats them respectfully, and is an outstanding addition to the Sport Shop staff." Eric appreciates the honor and says the best thing about his job is "having the opportunity to meet and be around some of the most genuinely nice and generous people that I've ever met in my life, every day." For almost two years, Dave has been a key contributor to the laundry operations at the WAC. He handles all the functions, including washing and folding tons of laundry. Dave is most appreciated and respected for being warm and friendly, with an infectious work ethic. Executive Housekeeper Eva Vasquez says, "Dave is a positive individual. He greets everybody with delight when he comes to work or when other team members come into the laundry room. Dave is hard-working and gives it his all every day." Laundry Supervisor Al Frigillana also praises him: "Dave is very courteous to all. He has mastered the overall daily laundry room equipment operations. He's a great problem solver and enjoys assisting others." Dave says the best part of his job is working with a good team, and the biggest challenge is when the Laundry Room gets really busy, which can be often. JUNE CHERYL SIMMONS EVENT COORDINATOR, CLUB PROGRAMS TEAM MEMBER OF THE MONTH Cheryl started here in 2007 as a Human Resources Assistant. Then in 2009, she became the face and voice at the Membership desk. For the last four years, she has found her niche as part of the Club Programs event-planning team. As an Event Coordinator, Cheryl is responsible for the development, marketing, and execution of member- selected events. She also sells theater and sports tickets and takes reservations for Club Programs events. "One of Cheryl's signature strengths is her gracious service," says Vice President Club Programs Melissa Borders. "No matter the circumstance, she makes every interaction genuine, caring, and unique to each individual." Vice President Human Resources Wendall Smith appreciates Cheryl beyond her role in Club Programs. "I cannot count the times that Cheryl has stepped up to the plate to help team members and members alike just because it was the right thing to do," she says.
