Written by Naomi Thalenberg | Photography by Barbara Kinney FAMILIES COME TOGETHER AT THE WAC { M E M B E R T O M E M B E R } { JENNIFER FRIEDRICH WOOD } Member since 1993 J ennifer Wood will always remember the day her mother asked her what she wanted for her eighth-grade graduation. "I told her I wanted to go to the WAC and have my first manicure," Jennifer says. "The WAC has always been my family's home away from home." Jennifer grew up with the Club, attending Father Daughter Banquets; training for fitness goals, including a bodybuilding effort; and spending holidays at the WAC. Nowadays, she and her husband, Michael, exercise and attend family activities with their three young daughters—Mary Grace, Maggie, and Gabriella (pictured from left to right with their parents). Mike is a commercial real estate mortgage banker with Norris, Beggs & Simpson. With his office across the street at One Union Square, he is a WAC morning regular. This past May, Jennifer met up with some friends for a getaway at the Inn at the WAC and Spa at the WAC. Afterward, Jennifer attended the annual Mother Daughter Tea with her daughters and other family and friends. "We take full advantage of the WAC," Jennifer says. "The Club has always been a part of my life, and it's kept me grounded through difficult times. I've met some really wonderful friends here, and that makes the WAC all the more special of a place." The Wood family also uses the reciprocal club program when traveling. "The day school got out, we headed on a summer road trip down the coast," Jennifer says. "Part of the adventure is to visit the amazing reciprocal beach clubs. There's just so much value in being a member." 24 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | AUGUST 2014
