Reciprocal Club Pittsburgh Athletic Association By Michelle Van Slack, Director Member Services Pittsburgh club hits a home run Pennsylvania—the birthplace of Little League T his year marks the 75th anniversary of Little League, which began in Pennsylvania as a three-team baseball league for children who wanted to play like Major Leaguers. In homage to its birthplace, the Little League World Series will be held August 14–24 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. With a spotlight on Pennsylvania, it seems fitting to highlight a reciprocal club in this great state. Just a few hours from Williamsport, the Pittsburgh Athletic Association (PAA) was founded in 1908 as a place to cultivate "a sound mind in a sound body." Today, the club continues to honor that heritage with a holistic approach to club life. Much like the WAC of years past, the Pittsburgh Athletic Association has a bowling alley within the club. And it isn't just any bowling alley. With 16 bowling lanes, it is one of the nation's largest private bowling facilities. e alley has ten regulation lanes and six duckpin lanes, which have smaller balls and portly pins that are more difficult to knock over. But don't let the emphasis on bowling fool you; there is no hole in this athletic lineup. e PAA has a state-of-the-art athletic facility, an indoor pool, a basketball court with running track, as well as squash, handball, and racquetball courts. It also has a boutique spa and wellness center. e club also has multiple dining options. e formal Main Dining Room requires jackets for men. e Grill Room has a roaring fireplace in the winter and accepts business casual dress. e pub-style Trent Room offers casual dining.
