The lowest-scoring members of the waC Golf Club also earned titles. Jennifer moreland and rick page took women's and men's low-gross honors with scores of 89 and 86, respectively. marge Thorgrimson and david Theobald earned low-net wins with handicap-adjusted scores of 88 and 68. a FREnCh FEnCER BaRBERShOp FaCE-liFT The WAC welcomed Leon Auriol to the staff to teach fencing classes and coach members. Auriol had recently immigrated to the u.S. from France, where he graduated from the Academy of Arms and rated as one of the top five fencing masters. The Club's newly renovated barbershop featured services such as manicures, haircuts, facial and scalp treatments, and shoe shining. The new space also featured air conditioning. ThE BEaTlES in SEaTTlE The WAC sold 200 tickets to see John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr perform at the Coliseum Theater. The theater is now home to Banana Republic on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Pike Street. 8 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | OCTOBER 2013 JuBilEE FEvER Members on the 34th annual Jubilee Committee began to talk about the year's Jubilee theme and prizes. Two of the many prizes were a trip to the Rose Bowl and a 1965 Chevrolet Corvair convertible. Share your WAC memories. Email magazine@wac.net. 3 BarBara Kinney Paul Ravetta stared down—way down!—his fear of heights as part of a fundraiser for Special olympics Washington this past August. Paul rappelled 40 stories down 1000 Second Avenue in downtown Seattle during the organization's annual over the edge fundraiser. Paul is a member of the WAC Board of Governors. WAC PeRSoNAL TRAiNeR LAuRA Heydrich demonstrates the sumo squat with lateral raise, which works your inner thighs, glutes, and deltoids while improving your core stabilization. 1. Begin in sumo squat position, with feet wider than shoulder-width and toes pointed out. 2. Squat down while raising arms no higher than shoulder level. 3. Push through your heels to return to starting position. Choose a weight that challenges you to complete 10 to 15 repetitions without compromising form. Complete three to five sets.
