WAC® MAGAZINE October 2013 Volume 32, Number 10 ISSN 1091-7985 Washington Athletic Club® 1325 Sixth Ave., Seattle, WA 98101 206.622.7900 / fax 206.464.3058 Letter from the President & CEO Chuck Nelson, President & Chief Executive Officer / cnelson@wac.net Getting even better H ow do you take something great and make it even better? How do you foster an environment of being proud of what you have accomplished and use that pride to drive a pursuit of excellence? How do you inspire integration of new ideas and change to push the bar ever higher? The Washington Athletic Club is committed to a managed, planned evolution. As such, we're also committed to a Strategic and Operational Plan that takes the many, many strengths of this historic and immensely relevant institution and builds on them—that recognizes and respects the important role of the WAC in our community and is dedicated to keeping the Club in its leadership position. The WAC embraces the opportunity to continue to enrich the lives of its members, even as that membership goes through inevitable change. How exciting that the Club has the ability to grow and adapt and live and breathe, to be dynamic! That is what has taken the WAC to the top of the private club industry, and that attitude will keep us there. As you will read in this issue of WAC Magazine, new and exciting things happen in your Club every day. We now offer nearly 100 fitness classes each week. Additions and improvements are at every turn in our wonderful dining facilities, with more to come. Opportunities in Club Programs, for all ages, give members the chance to learn new things and meet new people. Our members are accomplishing great things, here in the greater Seattle area and throughout the nation and world. Our reciprocal club relationships provide unparalleled access to other top-flight facilities in some of the most beautiful locations anywhere. People are meeting people at the WAC and making connections socially and professionally. The Wellness Center is a model for private clubs around the nation. What we have been doing for more than a decade is now being adopted by our peers in other cities. The WAC makes lives richer, more full, and more engaged. You are invited, encouraged, and cajoled to take advantage of it. We're also asking you to let us know how the WAC can be even better. Our new WAC Listens feedback mechanism gives you a quick and easy way to let the Club know what you see as our strengths and areas of possible improvement. Please take a moment to go to waclistens.com and participate. Then revisit often as you have new thoughts and ideas. How do we get even better? With a little help from our members.
