Connections in Wellness By Naomi Thalenberg | Photography by Luke Rutan Shana hopkinS, nutrition Stuart EivErS, phySical thErapy Stuart has been in the physical therapy field for more than two decades. He holds a master's degree in physical therapy from Chapman University and a doctorate of physical therapy from The Ola Grimsby Institute. In 2003, he became a boardcertified orthopedic clinical specialist. Stuart specializes in sports and spine injuries. He also teaches and consults at the University of Washington's physical therapy program. Outside of the Wellness Center, you might find him golfing, hiking, playing basketball, or cycling. 24 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | OCTOBER 2013 Shana's been exposed to nutrition since her childhood. Her father also worked as a nutritionist. Shana helped open the WAC Wellness Center in 1999 with a vision to help members better understand their bodies' nutrition. She's implemented multiple programs, including the Why Weight and Detox & Cleanse programs. Shana holds a master's degree in nutrition from Bastyr University and completed her graduate work through Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the Women's Health Initiative. She enjoys helping WAC members make smart choices, lose weight, and get healthy. paul Dompé, naturopathic mEDicinE Paul has been practicing medicine for more than 12 years. He's always been fascinated by how the body works. After getting a bachelor's degree in physiological science, he went on to complete a doctorate in naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University. Paul heads Elliott Bay Natural Medicine in downtown Seattle and specializes in stressrelated disorders. He practices biofeedback therapy, a technique that uses sensors to tune into the body's physiology. Paul also specializes in nutrition, pharmacology, and botanical medicine.
