You as members, and those of us who are fortunate enough to work here, should be proud of what the WAC is. It is the result of 83 years, tens of thousands of caring and supportive members, thousands of dedicated team members, and countless member leaders who have made and continue to make courageous and thoughtful decisions. The Club has been an institution for multiple generations, through which friends have been made, business relationships and careers built, and healthy lifestyles nurtured. None of this happened by accident. Strategic thinking and planning, a commitment to excellence, and most important, enthusiastic support from the membership have been and remain the critical elements to the success of the WAC in fulfilling its mission to enrich the quality of life of members. We can be excited about what the WAC is today—a vibrant and thriving community within a great city. In so many ways, our Club and our city mirror each other, consistently achieving at the highest levels while constantly looking forward, evolving, and giving even more to those who actively participate. Our historic and first-class Clubhouse contains the physical facilities and programs that provide the venue, but the Club is about so much more than the "stuff " that is inside. The real key is the dynamic, active, vigorous people who are here—the members and staff who make the WAC a living, breathing thing. So many great things happen here for those who jump in. Opportunities exist across the board—traditional and contemporary. Look forward to the 64th Annual Mother Son Banquet in November or join one of the latest "slow" movements and learn to bring local flowers into your home all year long (see this month's Club Programs listings for more). Walk on the treadmill or train for a triathlon with the Tri/Cycle Club. Visit Torchy's and enjoy a lobster "corn dog" appetizer followed by a spectacular steak. Whatever you choose, your Club is here, as it has been for 83 years. It was built for this purpose, and it has grown and changed and adapted to remain ever relevant.
