42 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | JANUARY / FEBRUARY 2016 respite from a day that can present unexpected stress and last-minute surprises. "I so appreciated the spa staff's easygoing attitudes," Katie says. Katie and her husband, Luke Williamson, wed at St. James Cathedral on First Hill during a balmy spring afternoon. From the ceremony, guests walked or drove the short distance to the Club, where a reception with passed hors d'oeuvres, dinner, a photo booth, and plenty of dancing awaited. As the evening wound down, Katie's aunt and uncle invited attendees upstairs for an after-party in the Presidents Suite. "The night ended with everyone thirsty for more," Katie says. "We were thrilled with the way everything turned out. It was a truly extraordinary day." ENVIABLE SETTING Nahal Nabavinejad and husband Arman Abedi found the obliging nature of the WAC staff especially convenient for their wedding needs. Like many couples before them, they couldn't refuse the beauty of the Chihuly glass exhibit in the Johnson Lobby Lounge or the twinkling ambience of the Crystal Ballroom. "We worked closely with Renee," Nahal says. "She was very professional, friendly, and accommodating to all of our requests." The WAC's services and facilities help couples and their guests unwind in countless ways. Access to personal training sessions and other fitness accommodations help many brides and grooms relax. So do WAC restaurants. Vanessa's husband, Aaron, spent time playing basketball and catching up with old friends in Hagerty's. Having everything under one roof— from lodging to fitness facilities to the Spa—makes the wedding experience more enjoyable for everyone. After a traditional Persian ceremony and a cocktail hour, Nahal, Arman, and their guests danced under the shimmer- ing lights of the Crystal Ballroom's Czechoslovakian chandeliers. The evening culminated well after midnight when friends and family stepped outside to light sparklers and raise a twinkling tribute to the new couple—and a perfect end to a new beginning. —Mae Jacobson is Associate Editor of WAC Magazine BOOKING & SIZE: The WAC welcomes members and member-sponsored guests to hold their weddings at the Club.
