36 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | JANUARY / FEBRUARY 2016 New equipment N ew toys will soon arrive on your favorite fitness floor, and some are already here. In Coed Fitness, you'll find three new LifeFitness PowerMill Climbers, a new rowing machine, and an HD Elite Rack. The last of those is a functional training piece with various options designed to accommodate individual or group training. "This is a really exciting time in the fitness industry," Women's & Coed Fitness Manager Maureen Eggers says. "People want faster and more efficient workouts, and many of our new pieces lend themselves to that." The growth of functional training is also expected to continue in 2016 and beyond. "The functional approach focuses on improving strength and mobility," Maureen says. "It trains the core to anchor the extremities as we move through the body's natural full range of motion." It also encourages muscles to work together, which enhances exercise safety and efficiency. Other new functional pieces include a TechnoGym flexibility anterior machine in Coed Fitness— designed to improve spinal alignment and strengthen core muscles—and a Synrgy360 system in Men's Fitness. "This machine takes functional training to a whole new level," Men's Fitness Manager Ben Stanton says. "It will create an arena for our skilled trainers to tap into the full potential of their clients." The Synrgy360 system focuses on high-intensity interval training and includes TRX, an infinite rope pull, and a medicine ball trampoline, among other features. Also around the Club, you'll find new treadmills, rowing machines, and group cycling bikes. Twelve new third- generation Keiser indoor cycles are expected to arrive in mid-January and include advanced biometric tracking functions and Bluetooth capabilities. "Members love the technology tied into these bikes," Fitness Programs Manager George Sommerrock says. "Being able to have the data from the bikes go wirelessly into their own devices is a huge plus."
