Reciprocal Club Missouri Athletic Club By Michelle Abbess, Director Member Services Meet me in St. Louis Explore the MAC as Seahawks open season MISSOURI ATHLETIC CLUB Michelle Abbess is Director Member Services. A lthough it is often true that location is everything, there is much more to the stately Missouri Athletic Club than mere convenience. But it is convenient—really convenient! Located in the heart of downtown St. Louis, the MAC is just a short walk from the Gateway Arch, Busch Stadium, and kitty- corner from Edward Jones Dome, where the Seahawks play the Rams in their season opener on September 13. Even more impressive than the location of the Missouri Athletic Club is the clubhouse itself. Founded in 1903, the club's present- day clubhouse was built after the original was destroyed by fire in 1914. Designed with elegance in mind, the 11-story club is adorned with spectacularly detailed original hardwood. e WAC and the MAC have quite a few things in common, in fact. We are both located in the heart of our cities. We are both 5 Star Platinum Clubs of America. And we both provide incredible athletic opportunities, including 25-yard pools, multiple sport courts, and tons of fitness classes. Not only that, but we both offer multiple floors of luxury hotel rooms. e MAC has 65 wonderfully appointed rooms, which makes it the perfect place to stay whenever you find yourself in the Gateway to the West. e MAC also offers a second clubhouse, located in suburban St. Louis. MAC West, as it's called, opened in 1995 with a major expansion in 2004. e family-focused MAC West offers an outdoor pool, tennis, and plenty of other sport courts. Whether you visit for a Seahawks game, business, or just for fun, the Missouri Athletic Club is the perfect place to meet in St. Louis. 10 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 2015
