I've consciously focused on this over the past few weeks, and the scenes I've seen tell the story of our Club. On a recent Sunday evening, I left the Club during a lively celebration in the Johnson Lobby Lounge. Two families rejoiced together, having just witnessed the marriage of a young couple. Teens and children were seated throughout the lobby, digging into the reception feast prepared by our catering staff. Women in beautiful attire surrounded me, excitedly comparing notes on the ceremony. This particular celebration occupied our biggest event venues—including the Crystal Ballroom, the Top of the WAC, and the lobby lounge. All of the celebrations in our lobby aren't as big as that wedding, but they are still a joy to witness. In the morning, I often see members and guests seated just inside our front doors, waiting for friends or colleagues. Later, as the post-workout crowd makes its way toward the street, the lobby becomes an informal meeting ground. Chance encounters lead to warm handshakes, friendly hugs, and exchanged business cards. In the afternoon, mini-celebrations occur as members collect their children from WeeWACs. Few things lift the spirits as much as watching a child's thousand-watt smile when they see their parent arrive for the daily pickup. As they reunite, the little ones are often chattering a mile a minute, recounting the day's adventures and telling mom or dad everything they learned and made throughout the day. Thirsty Thursdays, meanwhile, have the lobby buzzing. This almost-end-of-the- week celebration occurs on the first Thursday of each month. It's a great way to enjoy sample pours of wines new to the Club. Bottles are sold that evening and throughout the following week in the Club Shop. It's always a delight to see the monthly selections and to discover something new about our wine program. As for the grandest lobby event of the year … drum roll, please. Well, it's Jubilee, of course! The Club's anniversary celebration almost always occurs on the first Friday of December, and this year's party is set for December 4. This is the Club's biggest celebration of the year, a time to kick up our heels, toast the winner of a shiny new car, ring in the holiday season, and wish the WAC happy birthday.
