3RD FLOOR Meisnest Room The Meisnest brothers, Darwin and Kenneth, piloted the Club as General Manager through its earliest challenges. Their combined leadership—from 1930 through 1966—was responsible for 35 years of landmark decisions, including the introduction of women members and the first major Club expansion. The Meisnest Room serves as a small banquet space available for private events. Scaylea Room Named in honor of Josef Scaylea, a longtime Seattle photographer and photojournalist best known for his classic landscapes. Scaylea earned hundreds of awards during his career. During the 1970s, he led many photography workshops at the WAC. The Scaylea Room, decorated with his photos, is available for private events. Heritage Room This private meeting space hosts some of the collected memories of 85 years of WAC history. Decorated with historical photos, the space commemorates our dynamic membership and some of the events that have shaped our history. Crystal Room Originally named the Birch Room, the Crystal Room was born after the 1974 installation of three 550-pound Czechoslovakian crystal chandeliers, each spanning six feet in diameter. The current room—often expanded into the Crystal Ballroom with the addition of the East and West rooms—hosts many weddings, meetings, and private events throughout the year. Legends Room Converted in 1989, the main wall of this space displays reclaimed teak decking from the USS Colorado, a battleship that served heavily during WWII. The ship also participated in the 1937 search for Amelia Earhart. 38 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | AUGUST 2015 —Joshua Stollenmaier is a WAC editorial intern.
