Back then, her cancer still felt new, and the 7th Floor of the WAC was just about the most comfortable place to let her emotions go. As she cried, friends gathered by her side. Those days seem far away now. As the Club's in- coming Chairman of the Board of Governors, Tammy is ready to leave behind her cancer battle and look instead toward the future of the Club. "The thing I really want to make sure we don't miss is our important role in the downtown community," Tammy says over lunch in her office at Alaska Airlines' corporate headquarters. "Everything that is going on in downtown Seattle, it's transforming before our eyes, and we cannot miss out on that. It's a phenomenal opportunity." Tammy knows all about opportunity. She left Wiscon- sin in her early twenties, freshly minted with a finance and accounting degree from the University of Wisconsin, a Midwest transplant who jumped at the chance to move to San Francisco. "I'm wired to seek out change and challenge," she says. "I was fascinated by the West Coast's energy, and it drew me away from Wisconsin." These days, it's her Seattle connections that run deep. During the past year alone, her work has brought her in touch with U.S. Secretary of the Inte- rior Sally Jewell and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.
