AUGUST 2014 | Washington Athletic Club Magazine | 35 Companies, which provides revenue acceleration and strategic business con- sulting in Seattle and the Bay Area. His current role as executive vice president at Pacific Lighting Systems allows him to unite his commercial real estate con- nections with the fast-growing lighting industry driven by LED technology. "Kip's deep-rooted connections in the Seattle business community combined with his entrepreneurial background are invaluable assets to our company," says Seamas Markey, founder of Pacific Light- ing Systems. The opportunity to take clients on fly-fishing trips across the West, like a recent excursion to central Montana, keeps Kip in touch with his childhood roots. Though logging wasn't his calling, he never lost his passion for trout fishing or the outdoors. He calls a family cabin on Idaho's Hayden Lake his "happy place" and recalls many an August spent there with Jennifer, McKenna and Quinn. Jennifer's father and uncles built the cabin in the 1950s. In some ways, though, nothing will ever measure up to the forests, lakes and rivers of Kip's youth. No matter how long he's been gone, when he talks about fishing the Elwha River or vacationing on Lake Crescent, Kip is thinking of home. All of these things he mentions during a recent hike up Tiger Moun- tain. From a south-facing lookout, Kip points at the tail feathers of two circling eagles, then two more. Later, from the other side of the hill, Kip takes in a different view: The top of Two Union Square framed against the snow-capped Olympics. Unseen but atop his mind, the WAC stands between the two. —Darrick Meneken is Managing Editor of WAC Magazine. Jennifer and Kip socialize with Seamas and Trish Markey. Kip and Seamas are colleagues at Pacific Lighting Systems. The Spencers live east of Seattle in the town of Newcastle.
